Torsten Gran-Ruaz brings passion and dedication to all of his collaborations. With years of experience in many aspects of film and tv scoring, including composition, orchestration and project management he is an asset to film directors, producers and composers. His creativity and multi-disciplinary expertise ensure high-quality musical scores that captivate audiences.


Born and raised on Canada's West Coast, Torsten has always been passionate about music. Growing up he played and listened to many genres of music but it was always the pairing of music and film that really captured his imagination; This was music directly supporting and informing a story, that took you on a journey upon each listen.

Primarily educated in jazz music, Torsten takes influence from this and his love of films to bring a more narrative, programmatic approach to composition.


Aside from the notable films Torsten has been a sole composer for, he has also worked closely with many incredible composers and teams to make the scores for some truly amazing projects. This includes award-winning composers Timothy Williams and Drew Krassowski (known for Get Out, Watchmen, Guardians of the Galaxy), composer Terry Frewer (Head in the Clouds, The Princess Switch) and most recently as assistant and music project manager for composer Jonathan Kawchuk. With Jonathan, Torsten has worked on the CBC documentaries Carbon: The Unauthorized Biography and True Survivors and the PBS NOVA documentary Hunt for the Oldest DNA which won an EMMY for โ€˜Outstanding Science & Technology Documentaryโ€™.

 

A current member of The Screen Composer's Guild of Canada, Torsten currently resides on Vancouver Island, B.C and has been busy composing music for both local and international projects in a variety of styles.
